Saber of the

senior officer of mounted grenadiers of the Consular Guard (1799 - 1804).
According to the expert of the French auction Thierry de Maigret (Paris), Mr Croissy, this is a so-called "combat sabre". The expert refers to the fact that the regular sabres of this type were quite heavy and officers ordered lighter sabres for combat, one of which is presented here.
Brass basket with bracelets and round boiling shield with open bursting grenade, broad blade with palmette, branded "Manufacture a Versailles". Grip leather with winding. Brass scabbard with 2 carrying rings on wide bands and leather inserts.
